How texas was aquiredTexas was valuable to Americans because much of the region was well-suited fir growing cotton. Which was the South’s most valuable cash crop. Many southerners hoped Texas would be apart of United States. Americans went to Texas and basically invaded the space of the Mexicans. Mexico declared its independence form Spain. Which made Texas a part of Mexico, and when Stephen F. Austin arrived in Texas Mexican officials agreed Austin start his colony under conditions. Austin chose hard working settlers, but the Mexicans had to become Mexican citizens and join the Catholic Church. Austin agreed to Mexico’s terms. By 1827, he had attracted 297 families. When the success of Austin’s colony hit a rush of American settlers, by 1830 there were 25,000 Americans in Texas. But soon enough the tension between the Texans and the Mexicans began to rise, The Americans were having difficulty taking orders from the Mexican government. Mexicans started to become more like servants and things were out of order but soon enough the Mexican government sent Texas to further U.S. immigration. The government sent troops to Texas to enforce the immigration laws. In 1845 after all of the conflict between the Mexicans and the Americans and after the talk about a war maybe happening James K. Polk was eager to acquire Texas. After he was elected Texas was admitted as the 28th state.
